Fabric and term glossary

  • Lawn: a fine, lightweight, breathable cotton, the standard fabric for Pakistani summer wear. Our product pages list three kinds: cambric lawn (closely woven 100% cotton with a slightly crisper feel), Arabian lawn and Irish lawn (100% cotton).
  • Cambric: a closely woven cotton, used for the trousers in our Luxe suits.
  • Slub silk: fabric woven from yarn with natural thick-and-thin slubs, giving a subtle texture and soft sheen, with more body than lawn.
  • Butter silk: a smooth, fluid fabric with a soft sheen, used for our festive kaftan sets.
  • Cotton-silk: a cotton and silk blend, used in our Mukesh suits.
  • Jacquard: fabric with a pattern woven into it rather than printed on.
  • Crepe: a fabric with a slightly crinkled, matte surface that drapes well.
  • Schiffli: a style of fine machine embroidery, often with eyelet or cut-out detail.
  • Mukesh: a traditional South Asian embellishment made with fine metal wire.
  • Sheesha: mirror work, with small mirrors stitched into the embroidery.
  • Dupatta: a long scarf or stole worn with a suit.
  • Kurti / kurta: a tunic-style top. A kurti is usually shorter; a kurta is longer.
  • Shalwar: loose, gathered trousers.
  • Co-ord set: a matching top and trouser sold together.
  • 2 Pc / 3 Pc: the number of pieces in a set. 2 Pc is usually shirt and trouser; 3 Pc adds a dupatta.
